Producing Bioanodes with the Addition of Binchotan Charcoal
摘要
Carbon anodesCarbon anode are made by a mixture of calcined petroleum cokeCalcined petroleum coke and coal tar pitchCoal tar pitch. The addition of charcoal in the anodesAnode could reduce greenhouse gas emissionsEmissions. In this work, bioanodes were produced with the addition of binchotan charcoal, replacing small percentages of the calcined petroleum cokeCalcined petroleum coke. Binchotan is a type of Japanese charcoal that has high density, good electrical propertiesProperties, and high carbonCarbon content. The bioanodes were characterized by apparent density, flexural strengthStrength, CO2CO2 reactivity, and electrical resistivity. The results were compared with a typical carbon anodeCarbon anode and all the values were considered adequate, which indicated the possibility to replace small percentages of coke with binchotan. The bioanodes were produced on a laboratory scale and binchotan showed potential for aluminumAluminum industry application.
