Emirates Global AluminiumAluminium (EGA) has implemented a project to enhance the monitoring system of hydrogenHydrogen fluorideFluoride/Particulate emissions (HF) in DX potroomsDX potrooms. HydrogenHydrogen fluorideFluoride/Particulate emissions is a gas generated during the aluminium electrolysisAluminium electrolysis process. In potrooms, HF emissionsHF emissions are monitored using HF samplingHF sampling system installed near the roof. The HF samplingHF sampling was repeatedly rejected due to pump failures and tripping. The original system does not provide information related to sample run-time and pump failures. To improve the HF monitoring system reliability, several enhancements were introduced to address various failures. The new design consists of immediate notification of pump failure or stoppage, provision of run hours in individual potroom sections, SMS notifications, and a provision for flow meter readings display on SCADA with historical trends. Upon successful completion of this work, HF samplingHF sampling monitoring failures were significantly reduced, and the sampling effectiveness was improved.
