Emirates Global AluminiumAluminium (EGA) has implemented a project to improve the reliability of metal crucible tiltersCrucible tilter used in potrooms. Metal pouringMetal pouring is a critical activity during cell start-up to avoid delays in metal production. Challenges were faced in metal pouringMetal pouring due to signal disconnection and outage of the metal crucible tiltersCrucible tilter. This delayed cell start-up and created risks during the maintenance. To improve metal pouringMetal pouring, several enhancements were introduced in the crucible tiltersCrucible tilter to improve reliability. Magnetic shielding was introduced to avoid signal interruptions. Remote control batteries were upgraded and provided with battery indicators along with an alarm system. Also, a safe access platform was introduced to improve machine safetySafety. Upon successful completion of these improvements, the machine availability and safetySafety were significantly improved.
