Directional Solidification of Al–Zn Alloys: Influence of Furnace Angle
摘要
Al-Zn alloys were directionally solidified in a Bridgman furnace with three degrees of freedom (90°, 45°, and 0°). It was found that the degree of furnace inclination influences the cooling rate and the minimum temperatureTemperature gradient, which coincides with the position of the transition from columnar-to-equiaxed structure (CET). Also, the velocities of the liquid (VL) and solid (VS) interfacesInterface were calculated to find the local solidificationSolidification velocity (V*). It was shown that the closer to the CET position the values of VL reach their highest value, being this the VL(CRITICAL). Also, verifying that VL > Vs.
