Solar power capitalism is sustained through gendered infrastructures of labor, finance, and care. Women’s time, credit, and bodily effort are inserted into the circuits that stabilize solar energy markets. Pay-as-you-go solar home system contracts enlist women as financial managers and moral guarantors of repayment, while utility-scale solar plants impose unacknowledged time taxes through enclosure and displacement. In the e-waste economy, women’s hazardous piece-rate labor transforms discarded solar devices into new sites of value, revealing how bodily depletion underwrites green accumulation. Across these spheres, patriarchal governance converts women’s everyday labor into the hidden infrastructure of solar power capitalism. Yet these burdens coexist with tangible, if ambivalent, gains such as improved health, lighting, and income opportunities. Patriarchy is thus situated as an operational logic of the green energy transition itself.
