African Theological Paradigms on Materiality
摘要
This chapter provides an overview of African theology and how it is different from other contextual theologies such as black theology. African theology is studied here as an approach to theology that recognizes the historical and cultural contexts in Africa. African theology will be explored within the broader context of the African religious experiences including in the African traditional religions and how it relates with the Christian message. African theology is understood as an approach that seeks to indeginise the Christian message such that it is relevant to an African Christian community in various African contexts. The chapter argues that biblical texts become the premise in which we can study African theology in addition to the historical, cultural, and religious experiences. The aim here is to give a rationale for the relevancy of the African theological perspective on the materiality of religion.
