Homelessness Comes to School: Serving Our Most Vulnerable Students
摘要
Child homelessness is a significant and growing problem in the United States today, but many teachers are not given guidance on how to serve these students in the classroom. This chapter provides definitions of homelessness; common experiences and traumas associated with it; research on its impacts on students’ behavior, academics, and mental health; and best practices for teachers. Despite the challenges they face, unhoused students bring great strengths to school. This chapter will help identify strategies teachers can use to capitalize on those strengths to make school a safe and productive space for all.
