This study examines the requirements for container handling procedures that are considered state-of-the-art in continental terminals. The container handling procedures currently used in continental terminals and their characteristics are examined. We also examine the technical solutions that have been developed in recent years to improve continental container handling. We also examine the container handling characteristics that serve the modal shift. Those technical features that are able to facilitate modal shift are considered as perspective. We present a new container handling technology that is considered state-of-the-art and that is in line with robotization and Industry 4.0 methods. We will investigate where on the Asia-Europe route, called the “Silk Road”, it is appropriate to deploy advanced container handling technology.

摘要
