The concluding chapter summarizes the categorization of regional entities to highlight their position in ‘broader Eurasia’ and the international system, focusing on how categorization enhances the rigour and impact of understanding regional integration. Balancing different integration approaches will enable regionalism to work effectively for a harmonious world society. Categorization helps understand regionalism systematically, clarify distinctions, and ensure regions and integration entities are well-defined. This enables observers to compare integration models, formulate research questions and hypotheses to inform recommendations for action, and communicate results to stakeholders. The four categories of regions evolve dynamically, facing challenges and offering advantages. Top-down and bottom-up cases of regionalism, as well as RTAs and regions without regionalism are flexible and thus provide opportunities for integration and development. Finally, the chapter recapitulates, using evidence from prior chapters, how the various cases reflect the six principles identified in the introduction to enable successful regional integration: promoting peace, voluntary association, enhancing economic efficiency, supporting less developed countries to catch up, fostering democracy, and addressing global challenges. These principles can serve as benchmarks to assess integration efforts, emphasizing the importance of respect for diversity, inclusivity, cooperation, and responsiveness to diverse political and social contexts. The principles can guide future efforts towards sustainable cooperation, enhancing global stability.

摘要
