The vast majority of analyses of regionalism in Latin America focus on three points: identifying the type of regionalism, discussing the crisis facing the regionalist case (or cases), and discussing a particular issue or policy from a regional bloc. This thematic concentration is explained by the tradition of trying to identify the movements taking place in the region, traditionally referred to as waves of regionalism, which leads to a multiplicity of labels and identifications that end up treating each process as a unique experience and, therefore, not comparable. This explains another characteristic of these analyses: the scarcity of comparative studies.
