This paper reports the design and construction of a portable prototype to streamline triage, a crucial procedure in the evaluation and classification of patients according to the severity of the medical condition and the urgency of the care required in emergency rooms. The device facilitates the acquisition of vital signs. It allows a quick and reliable assessment. The prototype has three sensors to perform vital sign measurements: a pulse oximetry module, a thermistor, and a heart rate detector. These sensors allow the measurement of heart rate, oxygenation level, and temperature. A Bluetooth communication module is also incorporated to transmit data wirelessly through the serial communication through the COM ports of a computer. The information is logged in a database. It can be visualized in real-time through a graphical interface developed in Phyton. A preliminary assessment of the patient’s condition is provided. The importance of this research lies in the development of a low-cost, portable device. It provides a preliminary evaluation which will speed up the delays experienced by emergency rooms in triaging patients.

摘要
