Assessing and Enhancing Student Engagement
摘要
This chapter examines the critical role of assessing and enhancing student engagement in higher education, framing engagement as a multidimensional construct encompassing behavioural, emotional, and cognitive dimensions. It reviews foundational models and discusses how engagement differs from satisfaction or academic performance. The chapter outlines practical approaches for designing low-burden, ethical, and inclusive engagement assessments using LMS data, feedback tools, and formative practices. Strategies for interpreting engagement data are explored, including triangulation and early intervention, alongside the use of learner profiles to personalise support. The chapter expands to institutional practices, highlighting the use of analytics dashboards, staff development, and governance structures. It also considers feedback and partnership as levers for sustaining engagement, and concludes with a discussion of future directions, including AI-driven personalisation and culturally responsive metrics.
