Designing Interactive and Engaging Learning Experiences
摘要
In this chapter, we explore how learning experience design can foster learner autonomy, self-regulation, and engagement in higher education. Drawing on foundational theories such as Constructive Alignment, Self-Determination Theory, and Universal Design for Learning, it presents a framework for designing interactive learning environments that align with pedagogical goals and student needs. The chapter outlines practical strategies including collaborative learning, inquiry-based tasks, simulations, gamification, and reflective activities. It also examines the thoughtful integration of digital tools and LMS structures to promote meaningful interaction and learner agency. A key focus is on scaffolding autonomy through goal-setting, metacognitive supports, and motivational feedback. The role of assessment is reconceptualised as a dynamic process that drives engagement and provides opportunities for feedback and revision. Case studies from different disciplines illustrate how these principles translate into practice. The chapter concludes with practical guidelines and a transition to Chapter 6 , which addresses methods for assessing and enhancing student engagement.
