Principles and Learning Theories Behind Blended Learning
摘要
This chapter examines the theoretical foundations and practical strategies for blended learning in higher education. It begins by defining blended learning, highlighting the integration of face-to-face and online learning environments, and discussing core components such as technology integration, student-centred approaches, and flexibility. Key educational theories, constructivist learning, the Community of Inquiry framework, self-determination theory, and cognitive load theory, are presented as essential underpinnings for effective blended learning design. The chapter emphasises developing learner autonomy and self-regulated learning skills through carefully structured activities, feedback mechanisms, and reflective practices. Essential principles for course design and technology selection are also discussed, ensuring alignment between course objectives, learner engagement, and assessment. By blending pedagogical theory with practical guidelines, the chapter equips educators with robust methodologies to create engaging and meaningful blended learning experiences that promote student autonomy, critical thinking, and long-term academic success.
