The Variable Nature of the Healthy Angle Related to Age and Biometric Considerations Related to Other Factors
摘要
Angle assessment plays a crucial role in diagnosing and determining the management of glaucoma and related ocular diseases. While advanced technologies such as anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) are available for angle evaluation, gonioscopy remains the gold standard. Factors like age, sex, race, genetics, refractive error, prior surgeries, and systemic health conditions may influence the variability in the normal angle of the anterior chamber. Understanding such variations in anatomy will enable differentiation between pathological conditions and anatomical variations, and better detection of individuals at increased risk of conditions such as angle-closure glaucoma. This chapter explores the factors contributing to the variability of the healthy irido-corneal angle structure.
