The French geopolitical journal Grand Continent qualifies the era in which we live as the ‘de l'interrègne’ era, using a term coined by the Italian philosopher Antonio Gramsci to refer to those historical phases in which an old social, economic and political order is in crisis but a new order has not yet emerged. This great transformation cannot fail to affect competition law, given that, since its origin in the US Sherman Act of 1890, it has stood at the crossroads between the market, democracy and freedom.
