This chapter explores creativity in sports activities as socio-material practices. It highlights how athletes, at different proficiency levels, depend on extensive support systems including coaches, support teams, technology, and crowds in their creative performances. The world of sports vividly illustrates, how creative processes are fundamentally intertwined with physical, social, and cultural contexts. Sports activities are “socio-materially situated”; always occurring within specific cultural and historical horizons in an ongoing, dynamic dialogue, that shape how materials, such as sports equipment, are understood and used. These materials are not merely passive frameworks but integral parts of the creative practices as they unfold. Creativity, as seen from the socio-material perspective presented in this chapter, can be described as a dialogue between the individual and their environment, involving both tangible materials and the dynamic, emergent phenomena created by all actors involved. The chapter argues for a broad perspective on creativity in sports, emphasizing the importance of studying and supporting evolving social practices. Creativity flourishes when athletes engage in communities around challenging tasks, rather than focusing solely on individual accomplishments. By recognizing the socio-material nature of creativity, we can better understand and nurture the collaborative efforts that contribute to athletic success.

摘要
