Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT) has revolutionized the management of complex wounds since its introduction in the late twentieth century. The development of portable NPWT devices has further expanded the applicability of this therapy, allowing for greater patient mobility and the potential for home-based care. This chapter focuses on the evolution, types, mechanisms, and clinical applications of portable NPWT devices, as well as their efficacy and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional wound care methods. Clinical use and study of portable and single use NPWT leads to a better understanding of the mechanisms of NPWT, in general, and of single use and portable devices, specifically.
