Future Innovations in Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
摘要
The field of negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has been dynamic over the past 30 years but continued future innovations are required to enhance its clinical efficacy and accessibility. By examining the core components of NPWT systems—such as the sponge interface, sealant dressings, and suction pumps—opportunities are identified for optimization in materials, design, and functionality. Key challenges, including cost-effectiveness and the practical limitations of current systems, are addressed to propose solutions that could broaden the therapy’s application to diverse healthcare settings. This chapter discusses advancements in NPWT technology, including integration with smart wound care systems, antimicrobial features, and automated feedback mechanisms, to provide more personalized and effective treatment. By highlighting areas for improvement and future research, one has a roadmap for the next generation of NPWT development, fostering innovation in wound care and improving patient outcomes worldwide.
