The development of new musical instruments is based on their geometric and acoustic design starting from the establishment of the sound to be reproduced, the acoustic spectrum and the resonance frequencies with reduced damping, the correlation of this spectrum with the musical scale and with all the constructive elements capable of reproducing the sound at the corresponding steps. From the point of view of percussion instruments, nowadays the following have been created: profiled chimes; pentangle, based on the constructive principle of a pentagonal gong made up of five bent steel rods, the aluphone, the sixxen and the Melchiorre percussion instruments, gaiabells, kawaphone, spica. The paper presents the constructive and acoustic characteristics of these new instruments.
