‘It’s Not Who You Know, It’s Who Knows You’: Understanding Outing and Doxxing as a Form of Violence Against Sex Workers
摘要
Sex workers are continually engaged in a process of defining and redefining violence as they experience this. This chapter presents an abridged conversation between Rosie Hodsdon, Dr. Raven Bowen, and B, three colleagues connected through their work at National Ugly Mugs (NUM). They explore the ways in which outing and doxxing constitute violence against sex workers as both individual and structural harm within and beyond their involvement in the industry. They also consider the limits of information control, and the ways in which new technological advances and increased surveillance are impacting the ability of sex workers to maintain privacy and boundaries. Finally, they discuss the full decriminalisation of sex work as a necessary step towards reducing the violence and stigma that sex workers face.
