By capturing the thermal radiation emitted by these objects, IRT enables the detection of hidden layers, such as underdrawings in paintings or concealed texts in manuscripts, and identifies areas affected by environmental stress, moisture, or biological activity. Recent advancements in high-resolution thermal imaging and data processing have significantly enhanced its application in the analysis of delicate and complex cultural artifacts. This paper reviews via infrared thermography the study of books and images, focusing on their role in revealing hidden information, monitoring preservation conditions, and supporting restoration efforts.
