Active Surveillance for Low-Risk Papillary Thyroid Microcarcinoma
摘要
Active surveillance (AS) for papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (cT1aN0M0; PTMC) was initiated in 1993 in Kuma Hospital (Kobe, Japan), and it has passed over 30 years. Since it was adopted by the guidelines conducted by the American Thyroid Association in 2015, and since then, many manuscripts reporting favorable outcomes of patients have been published from countries other than Japan. In this chapter, we stated the outcomes of AS and compared the prognosis between patients with AS and those with immediate surgery from various aspects such as patients’ selection, prognosis, and quality of life.
