With the rapid adoption of short-video apps among older adults, it is crucial to examine their psychological effects. This study investigates how older adults’ engagement with short-video apps influences their mental health, emphasizing the mediating roles of social support and mindfulness. Using a survey of 148 older users and a partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach, we find that short-video app use positively correlates with mental health both directly and indirectly. Increased usage enhances social support (emotional and informational), which in turn fosters mindfulness, ultimately leading to improved mental well-being. These findings highlight the potential benefits of short-video platforms beyond entertainment, providing implications for digital platform design and mental health interventions tailored to aging populations.

摘要
