Reusing hotel buildings for elderly homes aligns with the principles of Universal Design, ensuring environments are accessible and functional for people of all ages and abilities. Hotels typically have spacious interiors, communal areas, and facilities that can be adapted to create a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for seniors. This transformation can leverage existing amenities, reducing the need for extensive new construction and minimizing environmental impact. This is a case study that presents concepts explored in an Interior Design Program to address the needs of the elderly, employing key themes from students’ proposals that can be easily incorporated into repurposed hotels. Given the growing population of seniors in Europe, repurposing existing structures like hotels can be a practical and sustainable solution. The emphasis on contemporary functionality in the design proposals can also emerge in the renovation of hotel buildings. By incorporating natural light, open spaces, and inviting communal areas, repurposed hotels can create vibrant living environments that challenge the traditional perceptions of nursing homes. This presentation provides a platform to discuss these innovative ideas and their potential impact on the future of elders living in Cyprus, but also in other countries.
