Leveraging Telemedicine in Smart Destinations to Boost Rural Tourism and Digital Nomadism
摘要
This paper explores how telehealth integration can enhance rural tourism competitiveness by improving visitor confidence, supporting digital nomads, and reinforcing destination branding. Using a case study from Agrafa, Greece, it examines a community-based telemedicine pilot that offers remote diagnostics to both residents and tourists. The study highlights telehealth’s role in expanding access to care, shaping mobility decisions, and fostering smart, health-secure destinations. It discusses technological, operational, and policy enablers for scaling such models, while also addressing limitations related to infrastructure, regulation, and sustainability. Findings contribute to EU-aligned strategies for rural revitalization, digital transformation, and sustainable tourism development.
