A Brief History of Malawi Literature and Performance Arts and the Gule Wamkulu Dance Group (A Conversation Between Dike Okoro and Lupenga Mphande)
摘要
This chapter provides insight into Malawi’s Gule Wamkulu dance group to demonstrate the importance of traditional performance and dance groups to Malawi’s contemporary art. The interview explores several contexts and examines writers, cultural groups, theoretical frameworks in Africana Studies, and relevant moments in Malawian/African history. As with literature, dance and performance are essential to Malawian/African culture. Lupenga Mphande discusses songs and dance groups from Malawi that are influenced by traditional cultures in response to Dike Okoro’s questions.
