National Memory and Myth in the Poetry of Frank Chipasula, Stella Chipasula, Edison Mpina, Lupenga Mphande, Steve Chimombo, Jack Mapanje, and Others
摘要
Malawian literature covers poetry, fiction, autobiographies and plays published before and during Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda’s reign as president. During this time, many writers suffered censorship for their writings, spent time in prison for publishing works that subverted tyranny and authoritarian rule, and suffered the brutality of dictatorship. While several of them chose life in exile or studies in the west, those that stayed home faced human rights violations. This chapter examines the poetry of Steve Chimombo, Frank Chipasula, Stella Chipasula, Lupenga Mphande, and Felix Mnthali and discusses the manifestations of myth and national memory in their works.
