In this chapter, we discuss that the decentralized vision of Web3 demands a fundamental re-architecture of operational and technical paradigms. We argue that the principles of people-centricity and value co-creation in Service Science serve as guiding tenets for the development of Web3. Leveraging new Internet architectures and advanced computing technologies becomes essential for developing robust decentralized ecosystems and streamlining the deployment of the Web3 ecosystem. Therefore, in detail, we propose a Web3 technology stack and present “The Pillars of Web 3,” including Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs), Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs), decentralized finance (DeFi), and decentralized applications (DApps). In other words, we identify and analyze the core building blocks necessary to develop and enable a digital future centered on enhanced security, transparency, user privacy, and self-autonomy.
