This convergence signifies a shift towards a more interconnected, sustainable, and efficient future for our cities. Cities are the engines of our modern world, yet they also face immense challenges: energy inefficiency, environmental concerns, and the ever-growing demand for resources. A city that anticipates your needs before you even have to ask. Traffic lights adjust to optimize flow, energy usage adapts to demand, and waste management becomes automated. Smart grids are the backbone of a Smart City’s energy infrastructure. They integrate cutting-edge technology with traditional power grids, enabling: Smart grids can seamlessly integrate renewable energy sources like solar and wind power, contributing to a cleaner energy mix. Advanced monitoring and automated controls can enhance grid resilience, minimize disruptions and ensuring consistent power supply. Digitalization acts as the fuel that propels the Smart City and Smart Grid revolution. It encompasses the widespread adoption of digital technologies like sensors, data analytics platforms, and communication networks. The convergence of Smart Grids, Digitalization, and Smart Cities promises a future brimming with efficiency, sustainability, and interconnectedness. However, this technological marvel has a vulnerable underbelly: cybersecurity. The focus of this work is to reflect on the cybersecurity threats from a vision based on three fundamental vertices for the energy sector with the introduction of smart grids.
