Today, the increasing volume of data and the rising demand for user-requested information exchange necessitate ensuring optimal performance for internet communication networks, especially within complex systems. Additionally, most real-time applications require high-speed data transmission, creating uneven traffic flows that lead to local congestion and impact the quality of service (QoS). To maintain a sustainable and high-performance network, it is crucial to implement mechanisms to prevent network packet congestion. In this study, we survey recent scientific research that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to control traffic at routers, identifying future challenges to address congestion issues, particularly in managing and controlling network traffic to ensure network performance at internet routers.
