Commercial-Off-The-Shelf Virtual Reality Technology in Simulation Training: A Pilot Study with Heavy Machine Gun Anti-aircraft Training
摘要
In this study a new VR-based simulator for heavy machine gun aerial target shooting was compared to an older, 2D monitor simulator. In a within-subjects design human factors and usability measures were collected from 28 participants. Overall, the participants preferred the VR simulator over the old 2D simulator. Using the VR simulator evoked, for example, higher perceived sense of presence, lower simulator sickness, and more positive evaluations of usability than the old 2D simulator. These results encourage to further develop VR-based simulators for military training.
