The abandonment and loss of domestic dogs in urban areas remains a critical issue, with an estimated 500,000 cases annually in Mexico - 18 000 of which occur in Mexico City alone. Conventional search methods are often ineffective due to the lack of orientation of the animals and the absence of coordinated community support. This work proposes the development of a mobile application that leverages biometric pattern recognition–specifically nose print identification–to facilitate the recovery of lost dogs. The system enables users to upload digital photographs and share real-time data across a collaborative network of dog owners. By integrating geolocation services and image matching algorithms, the application improves search precision, reduces recovery time, and fosters community participation. The widespread availability of smartphones in Mexico, with mobile penetration exceeding 96% in 2025, provides a solid foundation for deploying this technology on a scale. This work demonstrates the potential of computer vision and mobile platforms to address a growing challenge to social and animal welfare through technological innovation.

摘要
