Coloring the Emoji: A Therapeutic Game for Alexithymia
摘要
Alexithymia, characterized by difficulty in identifying and expressing emotions, affects approximately 50% of individuals with mental health disorders, exacerbating mental health risks. Traditional interventions face limitations due to their reliance on verbal communication and higher-order cognitive processing. To address this gap, we developed Coloring the Emoji, a therapeutic game based on coloring. The game utilizes a three-stage framework: (1) emotion-color mapping via a “pleasant-unpleasant” and “calm-excited” dual-dimensional color gear, (2) contextualized emotion attribution using 53 high-frequency, emotionally salient emojis, and (3) free coloring using adaptive tools. This study contributes to the design of gamified mental health interventions by proposing a scalable and accessible framework for individuals with alexithymia and related emotional processing challenges.
