There has been significant immigration of Central and Eastern European communities to the United States for hundreds of years. The reasons for immigration included escaping war, leaving impoverished conditions to find new opportunities, or joining family members who have established themselves in the United States (Alperin & Batalova, European immigrants in the United States, 2018; Hanson, & White, International Journal of Social Science Studies, 8(4), 82–96, 2020). As a result of this immigration, significant Central and Eastern European diaspora communities have developed throughout the country. The diaspora communities have developed to include their own language schools, newspapers, businesses, Churches, and community centers (Stecula, Polish Americans Today, Piast Institute, 2021). Even with all these contributions to the United States, the Central and Eastern European communities are often overlooked in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. There are powerful connections between Central and Eastern European communities that relate to the work on DEI. This chapter will examine diversity, equity, and inclusion in relationship to Central and Eastern European communities. This further examines the prospects and challenges of DEI. Specific areas of discussion will include culture, identity, religion, and language.

摘要
