Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Education for Sustainable Development—Case Method and Design Approach
摘要
Understanding the approach to implementing Sustainable Entrepreneurship (SE) in Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is paramount to empower potential sustainable entrepreneurs with the knowledge and skills to tackle economic, social, and environmental challenges. However, the current research streams have not explored enough the intersections of content, methodology, and context for teaching and applying the ideas within this theme. This exploratory study describes the process of employing the case method and design approach as the learning model, and applies the “mymizu 2022” case, a Japanese social startup, to generate a Business Model (BM) for sustainability by 70 international undergraduate students from Nagoya University of Commerce and Business. The research sheds light on a positive relationship between the learning approach and SE in ESD. The study shows three findings: the impact on the awareness of responsible consumption and scaling social impact of students through case and case method, impact on Entrepreneurial Intention (EI) of students through decision and design approach, and the new BM generation for sustainability. The study discusses the impact on EI for nurturing future sustainable entrepreneurs in ESD, however, adding the new dimension of Creating Shared Value (CSV). The study contributes to the theoretical fronts of ESD by highlighting the efficacy of the case method and design approach to impact EI as cognitive outcomes of SE and proposes the “Learner-centric and Action-oriented Approach for Sustainable Entrepreneurship” (LAASE) as the integrated learning model for ESD. The study provides implications for Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to integrate the knowledge of SE into the content dimension, develop local cases, and employ the progressive pedagogical approach for the cultivation of entrepreneurs for sustainability, with the support of policymakers, in the Asia–Pacific region.
