“This Is Leading to a Divorce!”: Constellations of Affect
摘要
This chapter begins with an ethnographic description of a moment that will be familiar to many Teaching Artists: where engagement and affect combine to create a moment of heightened emotion in a workshop. Affect is a broad field with many resonances in the domains of creativity and education. This chapter explores and analyses the representation of affect, using an established Specific Affect Coding System [Gottman & Krokoff, Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 57(1), 47–52. https://doi.org/10.1037/0022-006X.57.1.47 (1989)] developed to observe marital conflict. The analysis demonstrates how Teaching Artists must be continually monitoring and responding to affective behaviours. This interweaving of theory and narrative reveals that Teaching Artists must also be equipped to move with affect rather than overcome affect.
