Q+blind: A Game Adaptation for the Blind
摘要
In this work, we present an adaptation of the well-known game Q*bert for blind players. This game is a classic arcade game that has become a staple of puzzle games of the time. The gameplay is simple yet challenging, and the game combines action and strategy elements in a colorful and unique aesthetic. Adapting Q*bert for blind people is a creative challenge that requires significant changes in design and gameplay, focusing on sensory accessibility. Therefore, this paper aims to illustrate a set of suggestions and respective implementations to make the game more inclusive, especially for blind people. The enhancements leverage sensor technology to improve accessibility, provide intuitive controls, and create a multi-sensory gaming experience for blind players. The adaptations would allow the game to maintain its essence while offering an accessible, immersive and fair experience for blind players. Although a true evaluation of the new version of the game is planned to be done, including participants with and without visual problems, we have been conducting informal discussions and tests with players to try to include the best game options.
