The management of end-stage heart failure has been revolutionized by continuous flow left ventricular assist devices (CF-LVADs). Improvements in CF-LVAD patient survival and their quality of life reflect the evolution in device durability, patient selection and clinical management. Such success has nurtured the exponential rise in patients with mechanical circulatory support and the centers that care for them. However, device-related complications attributed to bleeding, thrombosis, infection and arrhythmias are gaining greater clinical recognition as patient survival with device therapy grows. The following chapter will highlight current medical management strategies in patients with CF-LVAD devices.

摘要
