Imaging techniques are essential in heart failure evaluation because of their role in diagnosis, treatment guidance, and prognostic information. From simple chest radiography to the most recent multidetector cardiac computed tomography and cardiac magnetic resonance, nowadays, we have several techniques to choose from. As long as each imaging modality has its strengths and weaknesses, deciding which information is desired from the exam should be one of the first steps to making a choice. The main modalities available will be reviewed here regarding what they can provide and how they can help in the heart failure context.
