Collateral Damage: Organizational Costs and Leadership Failures

This chapter examines the organizational costs that is associated with leadership failures due to bullying. Drawing on empirical research, this chapter explores various case studies and research that confirm how leadership and organizational culture failures intensify the impact of bullying both at the organizational and system levels. This chapter also discusses the implications of workplace bullying, including the public health risks, economic costs, and social inequality. It summarizes prevention and intervention strategies, stressing the importance of leadership commitment, importance of clear anti-bullying policies and procedures, providing adequate mental health support, and nurturing a culture of respect and inclusion as recommendations. The findings also highlight the critical role of leadership in creating a safe and productive work environment and finally the need for proactive measures to address bullying and its far-reaching consequences.
