Bulkheads
摘要
Bulkheads which are installed to form the boundary of a compartment in which liquid cargo is to be loaded support a normal perpendicular force on the bulkhead plate. In addition, they support an in-plane force when they are installed as part of the framework of the ship’s whole structure. Longitudinal bulkheads of a tanker support the axial and shearing forces due to the longitudinal hull girder bending. This chapter describe how to design rational bulkhead structures, including optimum horizontal girder arrangement on bulkheads, rational design of vertical and horizontal stiffeners, swash bulkheads, corrugated bulkheads, and so on. In addition, shearing force sharing ratio between the longitudinal bulkhead and the side shell is discussed in association with the minimum required thickness of the longitudinal bulkhead in this regard.
