In this chapter, theory of the torsion of a bar is explained. Saint-Venant's pure torsion theory is first introduced, touching upon membrane analogy and derivation of torsional rigidity of various sections including cylindrical thin plate section, closed section composed of thin plate, thin plate section and its combination, etc. Then, after investigating the torsion of an I-section, general theory of torsion with warping is presented.

In this chapter, theory of the torsion of a bar is explained.
