摘要
HP Inc., a global leader in personal computer (PC) and printer manufacturing, in 2020 initiated a sustainability-driven initiative to extend the lifecycle of its PC devices, resulting in a significant reduction of CO2e emissions from manufacturing. By refurbishing key external parts and cleaning functional internal components, HP successfully reduced the number of scrapped devices and lowered its carbon footprint. This approach not only proved to be environmentally beneficial but also commercially viable, leading to the creation of new service offerings for strategic commercial customers and the establishment of a dedicated “HP Renew Solutions” division. HP’s sustainability efforts were recognized globally, with the company winning a TSIA Star Award for innovation in services in 2023. This business case explores HP’s initiatives to decarbonize its IT operations and offer new, lower-carbon solutions to its strategic customers. The case also highlights the challenges faced, lessons learnt, benefits for customers and the business, and HP’s goals for sustainability. It aims to contribute to the study of corporate sustainability practices, which are an essential tool in mitigating climate change.
