Technical debt (TD) is a widespread issue in software development, often due to poor understanding and management. This qualitative study used a survey and thematic analysis to understand how developers identify and manage TD from individual perspective but also as part of development teams. We found that developers use techniques like code reviews, testing, backlog activities, and team communication. Our findings emphasize that managing TD effectively requires both individual effort and team collaboration, suggesting a need for a holistic, cross-project approach considering culture, tools, recurring issues, and collective solutions.

摘要

Technical debt (TD) is a widespread issue in software development, often due to poor understanding and management. This qualitative study used a survey and thematic analysis to understand how developers identify and manage TD from individual perspective but also as part of development teams. We found that developers use techniques like code reviews, testing, backlog activities, and team communication. Our findings emphasize that managing TD effectively requires both individual effort and team collaboration, suggesting a need for a holistic, cross-project approach considering culture, tools, recurring issues, and collective solutions.
