Leveraging Benefit Through Real Time Status Monitoring of Tdbfp Lube Oil System: A Case Study of 500 mw Thermal Power Plant
摘要
Turbine driven boiler feed pump (TDBFP) lube oil is used for cooling & lubrication of the pump bearings and also the same oil is being used in the governing system of the hydraulic valves. The main source of contamination of lubricating oil is the leakage of steam from the rotor gland seals. The oil also collects wear particles, oxides, soluble acids and sludge. These impurities in the oil is needed to be removed from the oil to ensure proper cooling of pump bearing and a healthy governing system and ultimately efficient operation of the TDBFP. So for this purpose, we have a lube oil purification system operating on the method of Centrifugal separation system. The real time monitoring of this TDBFP lube oil system is very much essential avoid the sudden trip of the system as well as generation loss. A practical industrial case study of modification of lube oil curcuit is presented in this paper. The objective was to bring all the signals related to purification system to the Distributed control system (DCS) panel and implement the control logic in DCS DPU so as to provide the operation engineer with the option of operating and monitoring the system from the control room itself. The next job was to implement the HMI, configure an alarm system and create the event summary in DCS system so as to provide instant alarm of the system to the operator for taking immediate action. All the advantages of the DCS system like trend analysis and event history will be helpful in trip analysis of the purification system. The detail cost benefit analysis is also highlighted to understand the impact of the problem. The presented study will be helpful to the practitioners, researchers as well as the power industry.
