Knowing What to Do and Taking Action
摘要
This chapter outlines the range of strategies available for bystanders to address bullying and advocates for a flexible approach rather than universal direct intervention. It synthesizes recent advances in measuring diverse defending behaviors and distinguishes between prosocial and aggressive responses. Multiple assessment tools have been developed to capture these distinctions. This emphasis on multiple options reflects an evolving understanding that effective bystander behavior depends on situational factors, individual capacity, and safety considerations. The chapter concludes that empowering youth with a repertoire of strategies increases the likelihood of safe, effective intervention in bullying incidents.
