Society’s and the economy’s transformation towards a higher degree of technological automation is increasingly influenced by the range and computing capacities of IT components and AI applications as well as robotic approaches. However, the necessary steps for a successful AI transformation and robotization in the area of public administration and its respective services often remain fuzzy and mainly unexplored. This chapter, therefore, aims to shed light on those AI-driven automation and robotization developments in the field of public services by categorizing dedicated types and manifestations of AI robotization/automation in the public sector context, thus aiding in their improved understanding and sustainable management. In this context, a strategic AI interaction model for the integration of processes of public institutions into AI-controlled robots and automation systems is introduced in order to identify and demonstrate suitable strategic approaches to AI-based digitization in the public sector. Building on this, the extent to which robotization and automation services differ in their basic design and nature depending on the various fields of application in the public sector, and which challenges need to be overcome within the respective AI verticals and their regulatory handling, is being investigated. Based on the findings of these investigations, practitioners and scientists alike can leverage the linking and transfer of human–machine elements to a combined interaction environment. To conclude, the key insights and structural guidelines that have been derived are subjected to a critical appraisal and finally discussed against the backdrop of expected future developments.

摘要
