In the Introduction to this study, when confronting the opinions of two eminent specialists in the area of Andean studies, Maria Rostworowski de Diez Canseco and R. Tom Zuidema, I have stressed the fact (so evident that it is generally overlooked) that any serious investigation of the culture and/or history of pre-Hispanic Tahuantinsuyu must first establish at least the main features of the ideological system that served as the basis for the functioning of the Inca State.
