The Fantasy of Clairvoyance
摘要
This chapter deals with the imaginary foundations of sociology in Chile. Although few sociologists were interviewed, the signifier ‘sociology’ surfaced in nearly every conversation, carrying excessive imaginary authority over what counts as valid transformative knowledge. I analyse its libidinal dimension during the revolt, revealing an ambivalent stance towards change. Through the fantasy of clairvoyance, I show how social change can be felt as loss, even when the lost object is imaginary. This eroticisation of sociology reflects the psychic difficulty of accepting the waning of phallic authority amid transformative moments.
